I thought I would start with a classic, to me anyway. 'From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler' by E.L. Konigsburg.  To paraphrase a friend of mine 'some books from our youth are best left untouched', to preserve the memory.  She also said that this book is not one of those books. Some books you can come back to and they are just as good as when you were 11. This book is about two children, Claudia, the older sister, and Jamie, her younger brother.  Claudia decides that she has been overlooked, being the oldest of four, and decides to run away from home. She takes Jamie with her as he has the funds. Where do they run too? Why, the Metropolitan Museum of Art of course! Claudia becomes enamored with an angel statue and its mysterious maker.  I think it would be so much fun to live in a museum after hours which is why I loved/love this book.  Reading it for a second time as an adult let me appreciate some of the humor that I might not have gotten when I was 11. Also Claudia and Jamie remind me of myself and my youngest brother Max (as he is my likely runaway choice).  If you read it, don't think ill of me for being a Claudia. Being the oldest of four is a hard job.  It's a quick read for adults and I think a page turner for kids.

Well, I thought I would give this blogging thing a try. My name is Mary Elizabeth, and I'm a recreational reader. I am often guilty of suggesting books to friends so I thought this would be a good way to go about it. My first confession is that my degree is in Microbiology and that is not anywhere close to an English major. This means that you will see misspellings and poor use of grammar. For that I am sorry. Like I said, I'm a recreational reader, not professional. I love all sorts of books. I read a lot of young adult fiction, but I dabble in others, so stay tuned for that. I love a good romance, action/adventure, biography, and many others. I might even throw in a movie review here and there. Maybe this will be fun!
